Also known as a prophylaxis, this is the corner stone of maintaining your dental health. Your mouth will be screened for cancer, gum disease, cavities, and other potential problems. During your visit you can expect the hygienist to take any necessary x-rays, completely evaluate the condition of your gums, and clean your teeth

Scaling and Root Planing

If you are diagnosed with gum disease, chances are you will need some degree of scaling and root planing. This procedure is typically done when the patient is numb because deposits of tartar below the gumline are removed.

Cosmetic Enhancements

A smile can be enhanced in many ways. The process can range from something as simple as whitening the teeth and closing spaces, to completely changing the shape of your teeth. Improving your smile can have a dramatic impact on your self image and on how you are percieved by others. Veneers and bonding can change the shape, color, and size of your front teeth to achieve the desired result. Dr. Brantley regularly attends seminars that cover the latest techniques to make your smile look beautiful. Please ask Dr. Brantley about enhancing your smile at your next appointment or by e-mail.

If you are diagnosed as having one or more cavities, then each cavity needs to removed and a filling must be placed in the tooth. We offer different options when it comes to choosing which type of filling to use. Some materials last longer and look better, but may cost more. After discussing the different options and fees, you decide which treatment is best for you.

Onlay and Crowns

You may need an onlay or crown if your tooth has one of the following:

  • Large filling
  • Large cavity
  • Previous root canal
  • Crack lines present

Covering the tooth helps prevent further breakdown and possible extraction.

Root Canals

If a tooth has a dying nerve, it will need a root canal. While most cases can be treated in our office, some may be referred to an endodontist.

If for some reason the tooth can not be saved, it will need to be removed. While most extractions can be done in our office, some may need to be referred to an oral surgeon.  The three possible ways to replace teeth once they have been extracted are:

  • Implants
  • Bridges
  • Partials and Dentures

Specialists are responsible for placing implants, and once your treatment is completed you will return to Devine Dentistry for the final restoration.
